Learning Through Play
Mathematical Development
Mathematical Development includes counting, sorting, matching, identifying patterns, making connections and recognising relationships. Where play is properly structured, and there is sensitive intervention and language input from adults' children could gain knowledge of mathematical concepts and language in an incidental manner.

Within Number we provide the children with a wide range of activities, which include:

Using money in role play and real life scenarios
Jigsaws, pegboards, grading boards etc.
Matching activities
Counting games
Sorting activities
Stories
Imaginative play

Within Shape, Space and Measure we provide the children with a wide range of activities, which include:

Free play with clocks and looking at the sequence of the day
Looking at the calendar and seasons
Free play with natural/manmade objects to decipher shape
Model making
Jigsaws
Printing, pattern making, computer programs looking at patterns
Collage
